Toby Young is an elitist who should have no role in Education.

There is a Worrying trend in the Tory Governments  relationship with English Universities  and we in Wales should be concerned.

Starting with a a spate of the English Media making claims like eight out of ten universities lecturers  are left wing there came the government announcement that .

UNIVERSITIES that attempt to ban controversial speakers from appearing at their campuses could be fined or suspended under new government measures aimed at upholding free speech.

It seems  that there is a co-ordinated move to make sure that English Education Establishments  do not question the May regime, in a manner similar to a
totalitarian state

Now we learn that one of those who will be overseeing the move to crush disent in our Universities ironicaly under the guise of protecting free speech is the loathsome Toby Young.

AS AAV points out
Not only is Toby Young completely unqualified for the role he's been appointed to (other than being relentlessly biased in favour of the Tory party), significantly more qualified candidates for the role have been swiftly rejected out of hand.

Take the case of the academic Nazir Afzal who is a former Chief Prosecutor, the pro-chancellor of one university, a director at two, and a visting lecturer at three more. He was rejected without an interview, with the job eventually going to the spectacularly unqualified Toby Young.

The highly qualified academic from a minority background is rejected out of hand in favour of the unqualified white guy who relentlessly propagandises for the Tory party. That's Theresa May's version of "meritocracy" in action.

It doesn't matter how qualified you are for the job, if there's some ridiculously unqualified lickspittle with connections in the Tory party who wants it, you might as well not bother.

This ludicrously anti-meritocratic appointment is yet another demonstration that Theresa May and the Tories are lying through their teeth whenever they talk about meritocracy.

Then there's also Toby Young's disgusting track record of spouting sneering elitist abuse to consider to.

Thus from Pride Purge  back in  2012

Tory spokesman and Free School advocate Toby Young, writing in The Spectator, thinks disabled children should be excluded from schools.
No – I’m not exaggerating – he really does say that wheelchair ramps in schools are an example of ‘ghastly, politically correct’ inclusiveness as well as comparing disabled children to “illiterate troglodytes”:
toby young wheelchairs
Of course, if you’re in a wheelchair – wheelchair ramps are not just political correctness. Not having a ramp WILL exclude you.
But perhaps Sun columnist Toby thinks that educating children who can’t walk would in some way mean more ‘dumbing down’ of the level of education in our schools?
As opposed, presumably, to allowing more ‘dumbing down’ of the level of education by accepting children of the rich and influential who fail their exams into exclusive universities? (bear with me and I’ll explain what I mean by that in a moment).
This nonsense about excluding children with disabilities is particularly interesting if you consider the fact that it was Toby’s father, Michael Young, who coined the phrase ‘meritocracy‘ – you know the seemingly radical idea that people’s position in society should be based on merit rather than on what family they were born into or what school they went to.
His father, a Labour peer, must be turning in his grave.
Still – Toby likes to boast about how he is a perfect example of how anyone can succeed because he still managed to get a place at Oxford despite failing most of his O’ Levels.
He managed to do this because apparently Brasenose College, Oxford sent him a letter of acceptance ‘by mistake’ (No – I’m not making this up).
Of course Toby, you were accepted into Oxford ‘by mistake’.
It had nothing to do with the fact your father was MP and life peer, Baron Young, and your mother a well-known artist, writer and BBC Radio producer.
No – it was just a mistake – the kind of ‘mistakes’ which only seem to happen to the children of the rich, the influential or the well-known.
Toby – I’d like to explain to you why excluding disabled children who use wheelchairs from schools is not one of your best ideas, by making a technical point about biology – clearly one of the O’ Level subjects you must have failed.
People don’t think with their f***ing legs you bonehead.e also
This a man who  who sneered at working class Oxford students who did get there on merit as "stains".

It appears that Welsh and Scottish Education Establishment  may be (for the time being) free from Toby Young elitist agenda.

It's just as well because he has has  accused the Welsh of being “chippy” for getting upset when he dubbed the use of Welsh “ridiculous.”

Mr Young wrote that on a visit to the BBC in Bangor:

“During the broadcast I retold this story, pointing out how ridiculous it was that all road signs in Wales are in Welsh and English when only a small percentage of the population actually speaks Welsh.
“Obviously, saying such a thing on BBC Radio Wales was a colossal blunder, but I didn’t realise quite how much of a mistake it was until afterwards.”

He said that as he left the studio the station manager told him there was someone to see him.
“I’ve got some rather bad news, Mr Young,” she said.
“One of our listeners took rather an exception to your remarks about the Welsh language and he’s come down to the studio to ’ave it out with you, like.”
Mr Young recalled the listener telling him: “You carpet-bagging, English b******.

“You have the audacity to come to my country – my country, mind you – and tell me I don’t have the right to be speaking my own bloody language!”
Mr Young said he was then given a 45-minute lecture on “the importance of the Welsh language as the lynchpin of Welsh national identity.”
He urged tourists visiting after Nato to “be warned.”

Why Young have bothered to listen to one of his despised  ordinary people

Though strangely I seem to recall that on "Have I got news for you " he claimed that the incident happened to him in Cardiff.

Perhaps his memory is not that good.

Or maybe he's a right wing bastard who will enhance an anecdote  to further his  agenda?

Whatever he is not the sort of person who should be given any role in Education,

Oh hang on maybe he can replace this guy?

Well no one can question young's industry - it appears he's spent the last 24 hours deleting everything he's ever tweeted since joining the social media site in 2009. Thankfully however some kind soul at the guardian seems to have saved them for us all to continue to enjoy :)
